Quartz is an engineered stone while Marble is a natural stone

Quartz is a man-made stone (aka “engineered stone”) made by combining crushed-up stone particles of around 90-94% and additives like polymers resins and pigments around 6-10%. The additives are added to bond the individual pieces of quartz mineral together to make it stronger. And then the pigments are added to create varies colours and patterns, making the appearance more mimic a natural stone like marble or granite.

Marble is a type of natural stone from metamorphic rock. This material is a classic choice for architecture as it was used long in the history to create various statues and pieces of furnitures. In short, marble is known for its natural stone beauty as it comes naturally in various colours like white, pink and grey with also gorgeous veining. If you want to add class and elegance to your house, marble is the best choice. However, it is not the most durable kitchen countertop material that you can get.

Marble is porous and easily stained while Quartz is stain-resistant

Just like other natural stones, marble is porous and can easily contaminated by acidic material. Which means you u accidentally pour a glass of red wine on marble countertops and did not clean up in time, it may stain. Unlike quartz that is a man-made stone, it is not porous so you have not worry about stains. You can easily clean up with wet clothes. But there is one good thing about marble is that you can polish them repeatedly to remove stains or scratches, unlike quartz that is harder and more difficult to polish.

Quartz countertops are more durable than marble countertops

When Quartz vs Marble, Marble is a soft stone as compared to quartz stone. Therefore it may be damaged easily if it is accidentally knock by hard things. Quartz is scratch resistant and can stand up to everyday wear and tear. 

Marble has higher heat resistant than Quartz Stone

One of the benefits of marble is that it can resist heat more than Quartz. You cannot leave hot pan or hot pot from the stove or oven on quartz as they can only resist heat up to 150 degrees Fahrenheit. You can easily burn or damage it. While Marble can go up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit but you will also need to use caution with hot items for longer protection duration.

Quartz is maintenance-free while Marble must be resealed every 3-6months

Another good thing about Quartz is they are low-maintenance, you can easily clean them with normal cleansers. Unlike Marble countertops that has to be resealed every 3-6 months and cleaned with pH-neutral cleaning products.

Marble is more expensive than Quartz

Typically, marble is more expensive, about 25% more than the cost of quartz.
